Hey, I’m Fred!#

I’ve been writing code for as long as I can remember—starting at age 10 with Basic, then quickly moving on to Pascal and Assembly. Back in the day, I was part of the demoscene and wrote one of the first PC demos. I also dabbled in some… let’s call it creative low-level programming involving self-replicating code for executables. Different times!

The journey#

My professional career started in C++, where I spent about a decade building software for companies like Borland. From there, I transitioned to Java and took on my first CTO role. During that time, I wrote the early versions of what eventually became Salesforce Knowledge.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of leading teams of hundreds of engineers while still keeping my hands on the keyboard. These days, I’ve stepped back from management and returned to what I love most—writing code, mostly in Go. I’ve also recently started exploring Rust professionally.

What drives me#

I’ve been fortunate to experience both sides of the spectrum—deep technical work and large-scale team leadership. What keeps me going is the next interesting challenge, whether that’s solving a tricky engineering problem or building something new from scratch.
